Robert Reid passes away; Knox College expresses condolences
We are sorry to announce the Feb 21 death of the Rev. Robert Reid, minister at Iona Presbyterian (Toronto) and a 2014 Knox College graduate. Find a brief note from his congregation below; we’ll post more information when it becomes available.
Knox College Professor Charles Fensham said, “Robert came to Knox College later in life to study and prepare for ministry. He brought with him a tremendous amount of life experience and compassion, yet he engaged his studies with deep humility and a constant search for new learning and growth. When he became minister at Iona Presbyterian Church, he carried that depth and enthusiasm with him. Robert was a true pastor. He listened with deep care and concern for the pain of others and then came beside them with gentle kindness and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Within the Presbytery of East Toronto, I personally experienced that care when my former student became a caring colleague.”
The Rev. Robert Reid died February 21, 2021. For the last 5 years, he ably shepherded the congregation of Iona Presbyterian Church, and was an integral part of the Tri-Church community. Robert was also a man full of love and compassion for those less fortunate. In no small part are we diminished for having him absent from our lives. Yet we look forward to that day when we can see each other once again, face to face.
Robert leaves behind a loving wife and four children. Please remember them all in our prayers, and when the time is right, reach out to provide any help that we can. Robert was a foundational member of the Cinder, and was instrumental in its ministry to our community. During the lockdown, he would meet with us nearly every Friday over Zoom. Even while he was afflicted, he had wanted to aid in the ministry. To the end, Robert was a servant of the living God.
