Program Overview

The Master of Arts (MA) in Theological Studies is a full-time, research-based graduate program offered by Knox College, one of the seven member colleges of the Toronto School of Theology (TST). The degree is conferred conjointly with the University of Toronto (U of T), recognized globally for academic excellence.

This program is ideal for students seeking advanced theological education, supporting both:

Duration

Normally completed in twelve (12) months, with a maximum of three (3) years.

Program Options

Two (2) program options are available, both can lead to further study at the doctoral level at the Toronto School of Theology (TST):

  • Option 1: Coursework and Master Research Paper
  • Option 2: Coursework only

Admission Requirements

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a master’s degree in appropriate field of study

OR

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in theology, or a major/specialist in theology or religious studies, or equivalent, from a recognized degree granting institution*
  • Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.3/4.0 or greater (equivalent to 77% or a B+)
  • Demonstrate English-language proficiency
  • Provide evidence of equivalent academic standing if educated outside North America

*All theological schools fully accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada are deemed to be recognized institutions.

Admissions to this program are overseen by the Graduate Center for Theological Studies (GCTS) at the Toronto School of Theology (TST). Interested applicants must submit a Graduate Degree Program Application through GCTS at TST.
