Knox College receives “Moving Forward in Mission” grant
As part of its Organizational and Educational Models Project, the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) has awarded Knox College a Moving Forward in Mission grant. This 12-month grant provides funding of $23,000 USD for Knox College’s proposal, “Lifelong Learning for Congregational Flourishing.” Grant funds will be disbursed in July 2023.
Knox College plans to pilot a virtual program for lifelong learning for clergy and congregational leaders in 2023-24. The online centre will include: 1) developing and offering short educational programs and events, some aimed at clergy and some at other congregational leaders; 2) developing a knowledge base for leaders; and 3) supporting networking groups.
In this post-pandemic context, congregational leaders face new challenges; there are also new opportunities, particularly as people have become accustomed to accessing learning remotely and participating in virtual networking. Knox College plans to develop content that profiles leaders and best practices of churches that are thriving. Knox will also provide a library of resources, tools, and blogs on church vitality and growth.
The Rev. John Borthwick, Knox’s new Director of Lifelong Learning, will lead this project. He begins on staff on August 1, 2023; look for more information on this new program then.
The Rev. Dr. Jo Ann Deasy, Director of Institutional Initiatives and Student Research for ATS, confirmed Knox’s grant award. She said, “The committee recognized that your proposal focused on mission, furthered the work of your strategic plan, and had potential to contribute to the sustainability of your institution.” We look forward to making this program a reality.
