Rev. Hahm presented the scholarships as part of the worship service at Knox College on November 19, 2019, which was led by the Centre for Asian-Canadian Theology and Ministry at Knox. Following the service, the Milal Church and few others hosted a Korean dinner for all attendees.
The Rev. Dr. Dong-Ha Kim, director of the Centre for Asian-Canadian Theology and Ministry at Knox College, said, “We are delighted by the Milal Church’s support, and by their confidence in Knox to train church leadership across denominations.” The Milal Korean Presbyterian Church, which is part of the Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad denomination (KPCA), has long supported seminary students as part of its missional focus, particularly those students studying Christian Education. This year marks the first time that the Milal Church has specifically designated scholarships in support of Knox College students at both the graduate degree and basic degree levels.
The Milal Church plans to offer scholarships annually to 1 or 2 doctoral students who study Christian Education, and to up to 3 students studying theology at the basic degree level. The Knox College faculty will recommend theology students for this scholarship based on demonstrated excellence and financial need.
