How to Apply

 

Step Description
1. Review General Application Information Before beginning your application, it’s essential to understand the overall admissions process and expectations.

Reviewing this information ensures that you are well-prepared and meet all foundational requirements before proceeding to the next steps.

2. Meet Admission Requirements Before applying, confirm that you meet the academic and English-language standards required by Knox College and the Toronto School of Theology (TST). The Admissions Committee evaluates:

  • Academic performance in all post-secondary education, with emphasis on prerequisite degrees and recent studies
  • Relevance of your academic background to your intended area of study
  • Letters of reference that speak to your potential for graduate-level work
  • A well-crafted statement of intent that clearly outlines your goals and interests
  • Availability of faculty in your proposed research area
  • Evidence of your ability to complete the program, such as academic consistency and motivation

Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English-language proficiency through standardized tests (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS), unless exempt.

3. Prepare Application Materials Gather all required documents and ensure your application is complete. This includes academic transcripts, letters of reference, and any program-specific materials. You must also pay the non-refundable application fee as part of the submission process.

Only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered. Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.

4. Apply Online Complete and submit your graduate application through the Toronto School of Theology’s online portal. Be sure to follow all instructions carefully and upload the required documents. The portal allows you to save your progress and return to complete your application before the deadline.

All completed applications to our graduate degree programs are automatically considered for financial support during the admissions process. Graduate degree students at Knox College benefit from dedicated faculty mentorship throughout their studies. In addition, up to two incoming doctoral students each year are awarded PhD Fellowships. The fellowships provide enhanced funding and focused support for theological research, academic scholarship, and the development of teaching excellence.
