Brian Malcolm passes away; Knox College expresses condolences
Brian McKenzie Malcolm passed away November 15, 2018, surrounded by his three sons and wife, Marnie. Brian served as Knox College Administrator from 1988 to 2001, and he was a founding board member and longtime treasurer for the Ecumenical Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto.
The Rev. Dr. Stuart Macdonald said, “Brian served diligently and faithfully under several Principals, including Dr. Arthur Van Seters and Dr. Dorcas Gordon. He was a very warm and caring person.” Dr. Macdonald is Professor of Church and Society and Vice Principal at Knox; he joined the Knox Faculty in 1996, while Brian was serving as Knox College Administrator.
In the 1991 Acts and Proceedings of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, Brian is referenced as significant in assisting with discussions related to Knox’s amalgamation with Ewart College. The commission’s report notes: “In particular, Mr. Brian Malcolm should be singled out and thanks to him be recorded for his diligence, his readiness to take on extra tasks and responsibilities, and his co-operative and sensitive relations with the various individuals and groups with whom he has dealt. Much of what has been accomplished could not have happened so satisfactorily, if at all, without the work of Brian Malcolm.”
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 7 at 1:00 pm, at Eglinton St. George’s United Church, 35 Lytton Blvd. Read more about Brian Malcolm’s life and passing here.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his honour be made to organizations he supported so faithfully: Evangel Hall Mission and the Ecumenical Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto.
