Knox College announces formation of a Working Group
Formation of a Working Group on how Knox College can best serve the church in a changing spiritual and cultural context
November 7, 2022
Last month, our Board of Governors, Faculty, and Staff met for a Leadership Forum that focused on the state of our churches in The Presbyterian Church in Canada and some important trends in theological education at Knox College. Although our College is doing well, we are in a time of considerable change. This will require deeper listening to the needs of our church and deeper thinking about the Knox’s role in developing leaders in our Christian faith for the future.
With this in mind, we have appointed a Working Group to help us identify the action we need to take and bring recommendations to our Board of Governors at its next meeting in February. Members of the group are: Christine Mitchell and Ernest van Eck from our Faculty and Staff; and Candace Grant, Robert Hayashi, Michael Nettleton, and Randal Phillips from our Board of Governors. As this is a joint initiative of our faculty, staff, and Board, the Working Group will be co-chaired by Ernest van Eck, our Principal, and Randal Phillips, the Convener of our Board of Governors.
The mandate of the Working Group will be to create a road map for action in four key areas:
- Better understand the needs of our graduates, our church, and the communities we serve.
- Identify the needs for ministry, pastoral, and lay leadership for the future.
- Look at ways to work more closely with our sister theological schools in the PCC and elsewhere.
- Identify possible new programs and how our current programs may need to evolve over time to develop the leaders that are needed for the future.
We will keep you informed of our progress, and we appreciate your support of the Working Group in the coming months. Once the Working Group has submitted its recommendations, we will be setting up appropriate teams to act on them.
Ernest Van Eck, Principal
Randal Phillips, Convener, Board of Governors
